NZALS and Orthotic House

COLLABORATION FOR BETTER OUTCOMES FOR PEOPLE WITH ORTHOTIC AND PROSTHETIC NEEDS

New Zealand Artificial Limb Service (NZALS) and Orthotic House Limited are collaborating on a journey to provide clients with improved wrap around services, including preventative amputation consultation through the appropriate prescription of an orthoses for diabetes and vascular patients.

Diabetes and vascular now represents 200 new amputees needing prosthetic services from NZALS and orthoses from a different orthotic provider. Protecting these patient’s other limbs through correctly prescribed orthoses will ensure a wrap-around service for patients from the prescription of their prostheses through to rehabilitation including orthoses to support their recovery. Additionally, Diabetes Australia recently stated 85% of diabetes amputations are preventable and an orthoses is an appropriate prevention strategy.

Our collaboration means a one stop shop for our Waikato clients of both entities and an end to end service with the primary care of the patient the ultimate goal.  Orthotic House, Orthotist and founding director Colin Storey says “We are very aware many of our clients are receiving care from multiple providers, the collaboration with NZALS means we are better able to provide a 360 degree care from either clinical service”.

For those in post amputation rehabilitation the joint provider approach means a more considered plan for overall wellbeing, NZALS patient says “If I can come and have my needs met in one place I would really support that. That would make it a lot easier for me.”

“Emerging technologies are top of mind for both providers, we are now better able to seek solutions for our clients that embrace the end to end care model, says NZALS CEO Sean Gray, for us to remain relevant and at our very best for our clients we know we need to continue to innovate and this collaboration helps us do that.”

The collaboration between both organisations is effective immediately with clients already benefitting from joint services.
